The EyeGiene® Insta-Warmth Dry Eye Disease treatment was created and developed by Eyedetec USA and its founder, ophthalmologist Barry J Linder close to a decade ago. Dr. Linder saw that existing treatments for dry eye were not focused on delivering exactly the right treatment for dry eye’s leading cause: Clogged Meibomian gland ducts. So he set out to create a system that delivered the right amount of dry heat, for the sufficient amount of time, to loosen the oil and get it flowing again.
How does the EyeGiene Insta-Warmth eye compress work?
Tears are a combination of mucus, water and oil. The oil is critical because it protects the water from rapid evaporation. Without sufficient oil, the tear dries up quickly, causing the eye to lack lubrication. This lack of moisture leads to scratchy, itchy, raspy symptoms. Hence “dry eye!”
The EyeGiene Insta-Warmth mask contains self-warming packets that quickly heat to the required 110 degrees for loosening the oil in the clogged gland ducts. The packets also retain that required temperature for the required minimum of 10 minutes, unlike other warming solutions like microwaved masks or washcloths warmed with hot water, which quickly lose their heat.
Applying the Insta-Warmth packets could not be easier:
- Patients open the sealed foil packets and place the warming insert into each eye pouch in the EyeGiene eye mask. By design, there is time to relax and put the mask over closed eyelids without losing any therapeutic heat, and then the heat is maintained for at least 10 minutes.
- Patients place the mask over their eyes, and relax until the treatment is completed.
- The warming inserts are then removed and disposed of.
- The mask is ready for use for the next treatment, usually on a daily basis, to relieve symptoms
